Yukiguni ("snow country") refers to areas in Japan characterized by heavy, long-lasting snowfalls. Snow has shaped culture and lifestyle of the people in Yukiguni. The exquisite textiles from the snow country were highly valued since ancient times.

 

ASANOHA depicts a geometric design of hemp leaves. It represents growth and good health. The wives of merchants would wear it to bring good fortune.

 

KOSHI - koushi - lattice pattern with thick lines to represent power and thin lines to represent elegance. In Edo period, it was common to have room dividers in a lattice pattern.
