Kikko symbolizes longevity. Hexagons are taken from the shape of plates on a tortoiseshell, representing strength and long life. Kikko means "tortoise shell." Originally, this hexagonal geometric design came from Western Asia. The tortoise represents longevity in Japan, and is said to live for ten thousand years.
